Morgan has revealed a special edition of its Plus 8 to celebrate the 50 years of producing V8-powered roadsters.
The last Morgan model to feature a BMW V8, the Plus 8 50th Anniversary is set apart by the yellow paintwork around the grille, ceramic-coated exhaust tips and the number eight on the grille. New wheels have also been designed for the car, while the bonnet has extra louvres to hint at the V8 performance.
Weighing in at around 1,100kg, Morgan says the Plus 8 50th Anniversary is among the lightest V8 cars ever made, with the 367bhp, 4.8-litre motor propelling it from 0-62mph in just 4.5 seconds.
Production will be limited to just 50 examples worldwide, with left- and right-hand-drive versions on offer. Customers will also be able to choose between manual and automatic transmissions, as well as two colour schemes. A blue ‘speedster’ model will be offered, alongside a traditional British Racing Green version with a black hood.
Steve Morris, Morgan’s managing director, said: “The Morgan Plus 8 sits firmly as one of the most iconic and revered models of Morgan’s 109-year history. From launch, the combination of a lightweight roadster combined with a V8 engine has proved a triumph for buyers around the world, be it for road or track use. For many, the Plus 8 is the archetypal British sports car combining handcrafted, bespoke luxury with exhilarating performance – and that’s exactly why the Plus 8 has been a mainstay of the Morgan range for 50 years.”
