The sexy saloon is based on the same platform as the new A-Class, with basic cars driving the front wheels.
At the front, the CLA gets the front end from the A-Class, with a downturned grille and narrow lights.
The rear end takes cues from the C-Class Coupe, with thin tail lights set high on the bootlid.
Inside, there’s more A-Class inspiration, with a dashboard that’s almost a carbon copy of the hatchback.
Behind the steering wheel, customers can choose a digital instrument cluster, which blends seamlessly with the widescreen infotainment system. Together, the two screens create a huge panel across the dashboard.
Speaking of technology, the CLA offers drivers a host of on-board equipment. Clever cruise control uses navigation data to alter the speed depending on the upcoming bends, while there’s a system to keep the car in its lane.
The multimedia system also offers voice and gesture control, plus a touchscreen – a first for the CLA.
Under the bonnet, customers will be able to choose from a range of petrol and diesel engines, including the range-topping 2.0-litre 250 petrol seen in these images. Buyers will also get the option of four-wheel drive and automatic gearboxes.
Mercedes is yet to announce full specifications for the newcomer, but the German firm has confirmed that the Edition 1 seen in these images will not make it to the UK.
