Maserati has revealed a high-performance version of its Levante luxury SUV with a 3.8-litre V8 petrol engine.
Dubbed the Levante Trofeo, the newcomer is designed to compete with the Range Rover Sport SVR and Porsche Cayenne Turbo S.
Assisted by two turbochargers, the V8 produces 582bhp and takes the 2.1-tonne SUV from a standstill to 62mph in just 3.9 seconds. Maserati won’t be drawn on the Trofeo’s top speed, but the Italian manufacturer has confirmed that it is in excess of 187mph.
To put that into context, the Cayenne Turbo S takes 4.1 seconds to hit 62mph, while the Range Rover takes 4.5 seconds. In fact, the Maserati even accelerates faster than a Mercedes-AMG GT.
As you might expect, Maserati has ensured the Levante Trofeo shouts about its blistering pace. The Trofeo’s styling tweaks include 22-inch alloy wheels and new bumpers at both ends. There’s a carbon-fibre front splitter to provide downforce, while the rear end is dominated by the huge quad exhausts.
Inside, the Trofeo houses figure-hugging sports seats and matte carbon-fibre trim, as well as model-specific instruments. Standard equipment also includes a huge 1,280-watt Bowers and Wilkins audio system with 17 speakers.
Maserati is yet to confirm how much the Trofeo will cost, but prices are expected to start at around £100,000.
