Land Rover has announced that it will build a further 150 examples of its iconic Defender to celebrate the brand’s 70th anniversary.
The cars, which look set to find homes with collectors, will all feature a 5.0-litre V8 engine that produces 400bhp, allowing a 0-60mph time of 5.6 seconds.
With this powerplant on board, this Works V8 70th Edition model will be the fastest and most powerful Defender Land Rover has ever made.
As well as heaps of power, the special edition car will also come with bags of kit. Uprated brakes, a handling kit and 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels shod in all-terrain tyres give it an even more purposeful aesthetic, while the interior gets Windsor leather upholstery and Recaro sports seats.
Tim Hannig, classic director at Jaguar Land Rover, said: “It’s fitting that we’ve been able to release the full potential of the iconic Defender, whose much-loved shape remains synonymous with Land Rover, 70 years since it was seen in public for the first time.
“The idea of reintroducing a V8 Defender was something we were discussing as far back as 2014, when we were still building the Defender in Solihull. We knew the demand was there for a powerful and fast Defender; the Land Rover authenticity is the ultimate finishing touch for discerning clients purchasing these collector’s edition Defenders.”
